On Getting Tickets for Your Favourite Band

Unless you have plenty of time, buying a sports or concert ticket before it sells out is not easy. For example, the entire U2 have sold 2,500,000 tickets for their 2009 tour of the US. So just how can a person who’s in full time employment get to buy a ticket if they sell out so quick?

They have to purchase one second-hand. .

Not so long ago, the only way to get a second-hand sports or concert ticket was via a tout outside the premises of the event . This inevitably meant getting ripped off, or even possibly given bogus tickets which would likely be spotted as you tried to enter the event - meaning you not only miss the music gig or sports event, you’ve lost a lot of dosh in the process.

However, things have gotten much better for music and sports loversThe secondary ticket market has cleaned up its act in the last decade or so, with much thanks to the internetThanks to the internet, the ticket resale market has cleaned up its act in the last decade. Now there is a huge amount of competition to resell tickets online, the marketplace has become self-regulating. You’re selling the ticket for HOW much?! I’ll buy cheaper on another site. And so many vendors provide very cheap insurance if the gig or event is called off. And with tough competition online, secondary tickets have become cheaper to the stage that it can sometimes be you’re not paying much more than the actual original value of the ticket. Many ticket buyers compare prices between lots of traders selling resold tickets for the same event. They check the sale prices, seating, insurance, and even history of the seller prior to making a decision - so the power has considerably shifted away from the dodgy looking tout of days gone by to the ticket buyer.

These days you can get tickets for all sorts of sports events and concerts. From cricket to soccer to basketball matches, right through to getting hold of front row seats for your favourite band; resale tickets offer a 2nd chance to go to the gig you want to see. So what to expect online? Use a search engine like Google and enter in your phrase like Ray Lamontagne tickets, and you will see a huge range of resale ticket brokers who have the ticket you’re looking for.

How to Write a Newsletter without Being a Writer

Filed under: Making Merry: Entertainment @ 11:28 pm

One of the best ways to stay in touch with current and past clients, colleagues and fans, is to publish a regular newsletter. Whether you use a HTML template tool like Constant Contact, simply create a good looking text email to send out to your contacts, or publish something fancy with PDF, it can draw new business simply by making sure that no one forgets what your business does and can do for them. For every company that benefits from this form of marketing, many more feel they are not good enough writers, do not have the time, or are not comfortable enough with the computer to make the effort.

There are many ways a small business can develop a newsletter, when the full do-it-yourself route is not an option. First, keep in mind that it is acceptable that 20-30% of the newsletter is promotion and good news about the business, assuming the audience is primarily made of clients and prospective clients. To come up with the rest of the content, try these techniques:

1)People who know how to write well, but can’t think of subject matter can visit one of the many article databases on the web, and browse for ideas. The idea is to use it for inspiration, and as a brainstorming tool for topics. Once an idea is established, start writing for the audience and put a unique spin on it.

Some of these databases include:

www.goarticles.com
www.marketing-seek.com/articles/search.shtml
www.ezinearticles.com

2)Anyone who doesn’t like to write can reprint any of the articles in these databases. In other words, he might decide to do a feature article on, say, logo design, to provide some substance along with business news and other thoughts. This is perfectly acceptable. Just make sure the author’s credits and bio are always included.

3)For those who know their subjects, and are willing to write but aren’t confident in their ability, there is the option of arranging to have an editor. Many freelance writers would be pleased to have a steady monthly or bi-monthly arrangement, on retainer, to work on editing newsletter items. It is also possible to find someone who is willing to barter this service for products or services on a regular basis. You can also hire someone to handle the design and technical implementation of the content and manage your mailing list.Be creative and consider getting help if having a newsletter would bring marketing and communication benefits to the company.

4)When the subject matter is not commonplace, and available in an article database, consider asking members of specific industries or disciplines to pen articles for the audience in exchange for credit. If it is a complementary service, or related product they sell, it will broaden the information provided your audience. These strategic alliances can bear fruit in many ways if we are confident about the quality of what we provide our clients to offer them knowledge they might not get otherwise.

5)Subscribe to industry newsletters and create a compilation of the best feature articles there. Your audience will appreciate the effort you take to discern and distill the most useful information for them, and bring it to them in one place.

The important thing is that the information is of use to the audience, and that they have the option at all times to stop receiving the newsletter if they request it.

Make a realistic monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly schedule. Create a plan for how you will accomplish this goal. Determine which route you will take to build your content, and which tools you will use. Set recurring deadlines. For example, put on the calendar that the newsletter feature article is due by the end of the second week of every month, and whether writing it, finding it, or submitting to an editor, it will be ready to go.

With good planning and taking advantage of the resources which are online, nearly any small business can develop a solid, informational newsletter to share with their customers.

White Noise for Baby Stops Colic Crying Fast

Filed under: Making Merry: Entertainment @ 11:53 am

It’s true. Colic is MUCH harder on the parent than the infant. My daughter survived six months of colic unscathed. My husband and I are a different story. We have deep psychological scars that send us scurrying for the nearest exist every time we hear a baby cry.

As parents, we were newbies. We had never even changed a diaper when we brought our bundle of joy home from the hospital. I had heard a few horror stories about babies with colic, but never thought in a million years I would be the proud owner of a colic baby. So, imagine our horror, when on about our third week of parenting, our daughter started screaming every day around dinnertime. And, I’m talking blood-curdling, “I’m-in-severe-pain” sort of screaming. Screaming that lasted four hours and drove everyone in the household to tears.

We thought for sure something was horribly wrong.

A doctor appointment later, I was assured that my daughter was fine, and she probably just had “a little colic.” Not to worry, that the colic would pass within a “couple of months”.

Yeah, right. Define a “couple of months”.

Those of you who have a baby with “a little colic” know there is no such thing. Experiencing a colic episode is extremely traumatic. You feel helpless, angry and frustrated when everything you try to stop the crying fails miserably. You feel like you’re a bad parent or that your baby hates you. But, don’t despair. Empower yourself! There are tons of strategies, tricks and products out there to help you deal with a colicky baby.

A guaranteed colic-buster we used time and time again was white noise. “What is white noise?” you might ask. Good question. Here goes.

White noise is the full spectrum of sound frequencies a human ear can hear combined together all at once. Huh?

Okay, again in layman’s terms. Have you ever been in a crowd full of people, for example, at a sporting event? Everyone is talking at the same time. You can’t decipher every single conversation, but you do hear the roar of the crowd (it happens to make me sleepy). That is white noise. Oh, yeah, I get it now!

Now, do me a favor. Put your hands over your ears and listen. Do you hear a roaring? What you are hearing is the white noise your own body produces within. The same noise your baby heard for 40 weeks or so while in the womb.

So, for a second, imagine you are a baby in the womb. You’ve spent most of your existence in a place warm and dark, where you were well fed and had no distracting noises, lights or outside stimuli. Then suddenly, you burst on the scene and have a whole big world to absorb. The stimuli eventually stresses you out, and since you can’t communicate very well, the only way you know how to blow off steam is to cry and cry and cry some more. This is the latest scientific explanation of the cause of colic. Your baby is over-stimulated throughout the course of the day. To relieve stress, they cry uncontrollably for several hours. Oh, man.

So what can you do as a parent?

Recreate for your baby the feeling of being in the womb. Lower lights, reduce visual stimuli, swaddle the baby and turn on some white noise. Babies seem to be positively effected by the noise frequency of a hair dryer, clothes dryer and vacuum cleaner.

Unbelievably enough, this works! When I first heard about this theory, I was extremely skeptical. But out of desperation one day, I pulled out the vacuum cleaner and plugged it in. It was like turning off a water faucet. Immediately, our baby quit screaming. If you unplugged the vacuum, she started screaming again. It was weird. But, it worked.

Wait, though! Don’t just plug in your vacuum cleaner and run it for several hours. The noise decibels will damage your baby’s hearing. You need to be able to control the volume of the white noise your baby is hearing.

White noise downloads and white noise CD’s are available for purchase almost everywhere. Just go on Yahoo! or MSN and do a search for “white noise baby”. For just a few dollars, your baby can have the comfort of white noise, and you can have your sanity back.

12 Reasons You Should Learn to Play the Piano

Filed under: Making Merry: Entertainment @ 1:48 pm

All right, folks, here you go: My 12 reasons why you should start learning how to play the piano. Immediately. As in today. This very minute.

Okay, fine, finish this article first, THEN get started. And yes, I know that there are more than just 12 reasons to play the piano. But I happen to like the number 12. :)

1) Everyone should play at least one instrument. I truly believe that. Every person on Earth should be able to sit at SOME instrument and be capable of making beautiful music.

2) Playing the piano makes you feel (and look) sophisticated. Truly. No matter who you are or how many warts you have, you’ll just exude class the second you begin tickling those ivories.

3) Piano playing keeps your brain active. It’s very hard for your brain to rot when you consistently throw it the musical language to interpret.

4) You won’t run out of things to do when you’re bored. There’s always a new way to play, always a new approach to playing, and always, always, ALWAYS a new song to learn. (See number 8.)

5) Family members can live vicariously through you. I’m semi-serious about that. The reason I began taking piano lessons (back when I was 10) was because of grandparents who didn’t play, and over the years I’ve had numerous relatives enjoy playing through me. (I live to serve.)

6) People will automatically assume you’re a genius. Honestly, I’ve heard this a lot. People uttering “He/she plays the piano” in the same tone reserved for “He/she has an IQ of 174.” You just can’t help but admire someone playing an instrument.

7) Piano playing is good for your hands. Indeed it is. I probably have stronger hands/fingers than most people I know. And have you ever noticed the hands of a pianist? Beautiful, long, tapered fingers. Chances are that if you’ve ever admired someone’s hands, they play the piano.

8) Pianists never quit learning. There’s absolutely no way to memorize every musical piece on earth. You could learn 10 new songs a day for the rest of your life without scratching the surface of songs out there.

9) Piano playing is FUN. Really. It’s one of the funnest things I do. Think about it, why would so many of us do it if it weren’t a blast?

10) Deep down, everyone wishes they played the piano. Have you ever read other people’s New Year’s Resolutions lists? If you haven’t, then you’re just not nosy like me. No, seriously, if you haven’t, I’ll tell you which wish consistently pops up: “Learn to play the piano.”

11) Piano playing is SATISFYING. It’s truly one of the most satisfying things you can do. (Right after touching your nose with your tongue. Or so I hear.) There’s no feeling like playing a difficult song and playing it flawlessly. Quite an ego-boost.

12) Everyone loves a musician. ‘Nuff said. :)

Why you must write articles!

Why you must write articles!

Copyright 2003 James Tyler

Why? Because…

This allows the people who read your article to find you and learn more about your business. When other ezines and websites publish your articles (and they will — some of them instantly), your resource box will be included which will help you increase traffic, gain subscribers & improve your link popularity for the search engines.

1000’s are waiting to visit Your Website! This will help them find you!

I want you to write an article. (I have included some help)

I don’t care if you don’t know “how to write and article” — you MUST write one today!

I want you to write a simple “How To” article related to working at home, home business, Internet marketing, information publishing, affiliate programs or something along these lines…”

Example: “How to Start an Article Exchange/Trading Center”. Or ” How to be Published online”! Anything of interest.

Why? Because…

.. writing articles is one of the most effective ways to market your website on the Internet and increase your subscriber base automatically, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! And, it’s FREE.

Remember, 1000’s are waiting to visit Your Website! This will help them find you! (YOU DO WANT THEM TO FIND YOU!)

Believe me, no matter how inexperienced you think you are right now, you know more than a lot of people out there … and if you need to do a little research for your article, just visit……… http://www.google.com and type in the subject you are looking for. For more help, check out:

Top Seven Tips for Writing Articles on the Internet http://www.bookcoaching.com/freearticles/article-21.shtml

12 Tips for Writing Articles on the Internet http://www.brisney.com/internet-writing.htm

For more choices, visit http://www.google.com and search for “article directories”. At the time of this writing, there is certainly no shortage of listing as Google pulls up 1,120,000 results.

Don’t spend any more than a few hours on this project. Your article should be 500-1000 words preferably formatted to no more than 65 characters per line.

Some help here (see examples, maybe……?)

Another great way to accomplish this is to have what is known as an Article Exchange/Article Trading Center on your website. (Do you need a website-setup free?) email me at end of article, I can help you here!

This is where you would swap articles with other webmasters/article authors in order to benefit both parties. This is done much the same way as exchanging links but with far more effective results ( in my opinion). There are many benefits to adding an article center to your site:

*Builds your reputation and online presence *Establishes you as a reliable online presence *Increases your circle of contacts and networking *Improves your search engine status *Provides readily available ezine content *Adds content to your website

When you find the articles you are looking for, contact the author (this will be you soon enough) and explain your offer. Let him/her know the benefits of trading articles with you. Be selective in choosing the articles. You want well written articles that contain helpful information and/or resources. (Hint here-see why YOU have to write?)

PUBLISH OR PERISH! Ever heard that before?

What you need to do is trade and write articles for and with quality, websites that compliment, not compete, with your website. Join some of the article lists above to find the type of article and research what you are looking for. You can also visit websites with article directories.

You will instantly be able to get your articles posted on popular websites in all corners of the world. This will improve your link popularity and allow more opportunities for people to find your website.

Compiling a vast and varied Article Exchange/Trading Center will draw more visitors to your site as well as improve your ranks in the search engines. Having your articles postedall over the net will help build your reputation and increase your online success. Get started today on your new Article Exchange/ Trading Center!

Write-Be famous, be known! Have a huge Swipe File! (hint you do have a “swipe” file?)

Plus, ezine & website publishers are always searching these directories looking for new articles to use for their own newsletter or website and when they publish your work, they are required to include your resource box which can lead to thousands & thousands of dollars worth of exposure for your website and the only thing it costs you is a little bit of time and perseverance.

At the end of your article, create a resource box.
